For this assignment, after alot of deliberation, and flicking through issues of Vogue, I decided on two key trends of 2011/2012 to focus on, the modern craft extravaganza, and feathery features. Inspired mainly by a Gucci beach dress of the S/S ’11 collection, which was completely constructed out of macramé, and, a pair of Dior S/S ’11 feather sandals, I put together my designs and ended up with a macramé corset and feather trousers. The corset was brutal. Macramé is cool to look at, granted, but though it’s pretty to look at, one forgets it’s basically knitting, with your hands! The feather trousers have a cotton gabardine base and the feather trim was sewn on systematically. Another key element of inspiration, Kurt Geiger’s feather trim boots, which perfectly match my trousers!
